Filling in the Gaps: Releasing “How I Got Over”

This Friday, February 28th, marks a momentous occasion—the official release of my mother’s book, How I Got Over. As I prepare to share her story with the world, I find myself reflecting not only on her legacy but also on the gaps in knowledge—the things I never fully knew or understood about her until now.

Much like my work in education and writing, where I focus on unlocking learning gaps, I have found myself on a similar journey while piecing together my mother’s biography. Through old photos, stories, and personal discoveries, I’ve learned things that are both sobering and fascinating—details that add new depth to her story, revealing just how powerful and intentional her leadership truly was.

One image in particular stands out—a photograph of her in a meeting, completely dialed in, with a computer in front of her, a notebook open, and a room full of people undoubtedly looking to her for direction. That was who she was—a leader, a strategist, a visionary. And as I look at that image, I see myself reflected in her posture. Whether I’m sitting with students, coaching clients, or refining a manuscript, I am doing what she did—helping others discover their best, strategizing for success, and making an impact with the gifts I bring to the table.

Her story is still unfolding in me. Her work, her legacy, and now her words live on. And as I fill in the gaps of what I never knew, I realize that the lessons she left behind were always there, waiting for me to uncover them.

Join me this Friday, February 28th, for the official release of How I Got Over, and let’s celebrate the life and legacy of a woman whose impact still resonates today.

In love and charity,

Giselle (aka) Blooming-lillie
