Today marks a milestone ten years in the making—the official release of How I Got Over: As Told by Her Blooming Lillie. This deeply personal and powerful memoir captures the journey of Rev. Dr. Lillie Madison Jones, an educator, minister, and trailblazer whose life embodied faith, resilience, and the pursuit of purpose.
As her daughter, I have spent the past decade ensuring that her words live on, not just in print, but in the lives of those who will benefit from the Lillie Madison Jones Foundation. The net proceeds from this book will support scholarships that honor her commitment to education, ministry, and leadership.

Why This Book Matters
How I Got Over – A Legacy of Leadership and Faith
Dr. Lillie Madison Jones was a force of nature—an educator, a minister, a leader, and a visionary. Her story is one of resilience, faith, and an unshakable commitment to service.
She was:
✔ The first Black woman to serve as Associate Superintendent in Guilford County Schools.
✔ A United Methodist minister, who shepherded churches, mentored future faith leaders, and made history as the first District Superintendent of the newly formed Lake Norman District in 2008 and only the second African American woman at that time appointed as a DS in the Western North Carolina Conference.
✔ A coach and mentor whose wisdom still shapes lives today.
And now, her words live on.
