Tomorrow is Ashley’s birthday, and as I reflect on her life, I can’t help but marvel at how much of my mother lives in her. Not just in her spirit, strength, or grace—but in her face. The resemblance is almost uncanny. It’s as if a generation skipped, and my mother’s likeness was reborn in her granddaughter.
It reminds me of something my mother used to say whenever she saw Ashley deep in thought or carrying herself with quiet confidence:
“That child’s got an old soul.”
It wasn’t just a phrase. It was a knowing—an understanding that our children carry more than our names or features. They carry our wisdom, our prayers, and our promise.
Looking at Ashley, I often feel like I’m looking at my mother’s reflection—reborn, renewed, reimagined. Just as I resemble my grandmother, Ashley now mirrors my mother, forming a lineage of strength, intelligence, and beauty that runs deep in our bloodline.
It’s a powerful reminder that legacy is not only lived, it is seen.
It walks, breathes, creates, and grows—in the lives of those who come after us.
We often think of legacy as something written or remembered. But sometimes, it’s simply born again, showing up in our children’s eyes, voices, and hearts. And for that, I am so grateful.
So today, on the eve of Ashley’s birthday, I pause to honor the generational beauty of our family—how God weaves us together not only through time, but through spirit, shape, and story.
Happy almost birthday, Ashley. And thank you, Mama, for living on in her.
In love and charity,
Giselle (aka) Blooming-lillie
